Those are the Even More plans....
I have been through the website and its lacking stuff... How much to add lines to Even More Plus? How much for data on Even More?
Not very interactive or informative...
You only get discounts on phone if you go with their higher tier plan or $99 a month for everything. Compared to the $80 everything plan with no phone discounts....it's crappy and confusing.
This kills, me 'cause T-mobile (although they have 'better customer service'...slightly) think their network is equal to the other companies??!! Please! I live in a MAJOR city and if I travel 20 miles out of the city, I ROAM always on AT&T (for free yes ) But I can drive for miles and I'm on AT&T for 3 hours until I hit another major city in my state. AND while you roam? NO 3G!!! If I was AT&T I would cut the roaming contracts and it would cripple T-Mobile.
I was surprised to see them tout the paltry nationwide 3G coverage as being so big and widespread. It's clearly not. When you click the link to view the coverage map, you can barely see any of 3G dots on the map.
The website is very confusing and hard to understand. I've read the whole promo thing at least twice; I've kept up with the blogs and the advance Project Dark information, and y'all have done a good job of explaining things here, but if I was a casual buyer going to T-Mo and wanting to sign up or make changes to my account, I'd walk away extremely frustrated and sign up with anyone but T-Mo.
The hype created by the bloggers clearly overshoots the reality. I don't blame T-Mobile for this failure, I blame the blogging community. And we told our friends, who told their friends, who told their friends, blah! Now, T-Mobile looks awful as compared to the way we blew this up. Combine that with us bitchin about recent "Google vs Cyanogen" fiasco that at least partially got blamed on T-Mobile, and the fiasco part deux (Microsoft/Danger & T-Mobile Sidekick), that leaves the likes of Tracphone look far superior to T-Mobile in most every single way.
Geez, this is horrible.
myFaves for Families 1200 Min - $79.99
Unlimited Family Texting - $ 9.99
Mobile to Mobile & Wifi Call - $ 9.99
Family Allowances - $ 2.00
Total Internet - $19.99
T-Zones - $ 5.99
Unlimited Smartphone Internet - $24.99
Add-a-line X3 - $29.97
Subtotal before taxes&discount-$183.00
- 12 AAA Discount - $21.96
Subtotal before taxes -$161.04
The price would be $70 for the family plan with unlimited text plus $25 for data for a single line plus $5 to add the third line with shared minutes. That's $99.99 a month, with no contract.
With those discounts, it's going to be tough to do any better. I would say keep your current plan. Sounds like you have 5 lines, 2 with data, 1 with phone-first internet, all with unlimited messaging. You probably also get good use out of the faves. Here's what I'd compare it to:
$120 plan with 1500 shared minutes
-includes unlimited messaging for all lines
-includes smartphone data for two lines
plus $15 to add three lines ($5 each to share the minutes)
plus $5 for family allowances (the new cost)
plus $10 to add web to the third phone
Total: $150, but you lose myfaves and hotspot calling. Maybe with good use of family allowances, you can make it worth the switch.
If you go full unlimited, the price jumps to $245 for all 5 lines, although with unlimited minutes, you could probably dump the $5 family allowances.
My suggestion is to call a real person to help you out with this. I can never make sense of written instructions; I'm always better off discussing things with real people. 611!
I do have hope for T-Mobile and I really do think this new Even More and Even More+ is nothing less than a step in the right direction to become even more competitive. We need to forget about all the "deal breaking" hype and just focus on baby steps or "slow and steady" progress.
I can't say this enough, but if you are bitter towards these plans or T-mobile in any way I truely beg of you to reach out to your local T-mobile and talk to a rep. There is a reason they have the JD Power award for #1 customer service across ALL wireless carriers. Have someone go line by line and see what the best option is for you. Or use an unbias source billshrink.com see what they offer for you.
Just as an illustration, my friend is on the 950 minute ATT plan with the iphone's data plan and unlimited text for $110 a month. For two years. So in the grand scheme of things, if T-Mo can keep the 3G rollouts coming at a decent clip to make itself at least on par with ATT, the plans presented (even under contract at $100 a month) is a bargain for what you get.
If you bring your own device that's not offered by T-Mo or if you don't mind a Craigslist or ebay phone, the plus plan makes the most sense and really does blow the competition out of the water. Not a game changer, but still gives consumers a cheaper alternative...
BUILD OUT THE 3G, T-MO; THAT'S THE MISSING "GAME CHANGER" COMPONENT.
(unlimited family talk+text+web)
I have $50 loyalty unlimited +$25 android 400msgs+unlim data. For all purposes 400msgs=unlimited _for me_. So under the new plans it would be $80 to get the same service I now pay $25 for, and no phone subsidies. The worst part is I now can't add/drop my data plan at will like I could before because that will force me to the newer plans.
1) No contract
2) For $119 / month I get 4 lines
750 mins to share
My wife and I get unlimited text/data with our Android phones
My two kids get to share our mins and get unlimited text.
Pretty good if you ask me.
-The Even More plans are not really the interesting part of this new rate plan structure. Sure, they have decent prices, but the real "game-changer" is the Even More+ structure.
-The new structure is not game-changing in that the rate plans offered will be a better deal than every single deal every existing T-Mobile customer has. Maybe you have a loyalty offer that can beat them, or maybe you have figured out the perfect combination of plan and features for your situation using the old system. If that's the case, keep your old setup. As always, the old plans will be grandfathered. That includes being able to stay on your old plan when you upgrade your phone.
-The new rate plans are almost universally better than anything offered by Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. I've seen some comments suggesting that some of the prepaid plans out there "run on Verizon's network" or "run on AT&T's network" and are cheaper than T-Mobile's new plans. If that's true, how can Verizon charge $130 for the exact same service for which TracFone StraightTalk charges $45? It's not just the free phone. That would pay for itself in a month or two on StraightTalk. Ask and answer that question before making silly claims.
-The new rate plans are not, generally, better than the prices offered by Boost, Pocket, Cricket, TracFone, and Metro. But they're close enough to give people pause, and the coverage and service are far better.
-The new structure is simple. You don't have to perform a differential calculus equation to determine what rate plan is best for you. All you need to do is ask "How many minutes do I need?" "Do I need messaging?" and "Do I need data?" There are other add-ons as needed, but no more wondering whether you're better off with myFaves or extra whenever minutes. If an individual thinks they might use more than 1000 minutes, they can get the EM+ plan with unlimited minutes for the price of the old 600 minute myFaves plan.
-The new structure is fair. You get what you pay for. If you don't need a fancy new phone, you don't pay rates that have been inflated by companies just to recoup the cost of giving away expensive phones, and you also don't get stuck with the contract and ETF associated with those plans. If you *do* want to buy a phone, there's nothing to keep you from buying a new T-Mobile phone and paying in installments. Or an unlocked phone from another provider. Or a European Nokia or Asian CECT phone. Or using an old phone your friend gave you. Or a used phone you found on eBay.
-The new structure is reasonable. Voice has the highest impact on the wireless network, so it's priced highest, and charged in tiers based on usage. Data has the second highest impact, so it's $20 for smartphones (or $25 in certain circumstances) and $10 for WAP browsing. Finally, messaging impacts the system the least, and is priced at $10 a month for all you can eat, or $20 for 2-5 lines. (5 lines on a family account can get unlimited messaging for $4 per line!)
-Perhaps most importantly, you don't get stuck with a contract. Use the phone you want, pay for it in installments if you need to, and pay reasonable prices for your cell service. Come and go as you please, as you would with any retail business. T-Mobile will try to keep your business by providing good service at good prices, but you won't wind up feeling stuck in a contract anymore. Most foreign cell phone companies have done away with contracts, and, in my opinion, it's time American companies started following suit. No American likes feeling owned by a corporation, or having their money held ransom.
Reading the complaints on this blog has been a bit of a shock. I can't believe so many people are upset that T-Mobile didn't start selling AT&T's phones on Verizon's network at Metro PCS prices. No, Project Dark does not mean a free iPhone and $50 unlimited everything on a new coast-to-coast 4G network. T-Mobile has not suddenly become a magical wish-granting genie. What T-Mobile *has* done is put a lot more control back in the hands of consumers, and rolled out some good prices. The new plans seem like a good deal to me, I've had pretty good luck with T-Mobile's network, and I like the freedom afforded by the Plus plans. But if they don't seem like a good deal to you, feel free to shop around. Look at the available prices, phones, coverage, etc. and choose a service that works best for you.
Use BB8900 as example, it is listed as $499 there, but only $399 on Amazon!
I have 1 G1 and 1 Gravity 2, both under contract. I was worried about paying ETF to switch to Even More Plus, but it wasn't needed.
I then ask to speak with a manager, she came on and explained that they just got the literature this morning,,what a crock of bull...they had this info for a while. When she took me through the numbers for the new plans, I would be adding roughly $26.00 more to my bill for the exact same features but adding 500 mins...she did the say " I have to admit,it doesn't really help you at all..Stay with your current plan, it makes more sense" then she couldn't get off the phone fast enough after I started telling her what I had heard about these plans. ou are an existing customer with over 365 days left on contract you are screwed.. I would recommend that you stay on your current plans, all the new plans have increases built in...I am so made at TMobile for not recognizing and appreciating their current family of customers. This is all geared for the new customer who wants no contract... so loyalty means no rewards, no loyalty means rewards..if this is where we are headed we can expect lower customer service, higher prices for phones, and just an overall feeling of helplessness in the future..this isn't just my take on things,,call T-Mobile and start asking questions,,see where you get..
Well there you have it in a nut shell... If y
Why would T-Mobile NOT offer existing customers with a family plan an Unlimited Talk-Text & Web package ????
Anyone,,,Anyone at all....I don't mind paying for it..but you have to offer it for me to pay for it...
Wow, I can't be the only person with a family who wants to talk , text and have a smart phone..
Am I ????
Sorry guy, but no matter how you spin it these plans are not impressive. Okay, I will say that unlimited is competitive to the big 3 but that's about it. I am a tmobile user who will either jump ship or maintain my current myfaves plan (only because my family doesn't want to deal with switching). That being said, NO my plan is not a cherry picked plan from the best of the best promotions that tmobile has offered over the years. (I've been with tmo since 2001) I have the 700 myfaves family plan that was available to anyone else and unlimited family messaging.
The place where tmobile really fails is the way they handle data for families. Their strategy is EXACTLY the same as AT&T which happens to be MUCH more expensive than either Verizon or Sprint. For $20 more per month than I currently pay with no lines having data on tmobile I can switch to Verizon or Sprint and EVERYONE on my plan will have data (and more minutes, but that just adds insult to injury) Sure sprint may be on it's last legs, I don't know. However, you can not deny that verizon has the best network for voice and data in the nation. So explain to me why I would pay $130 more per month to add data to all my lines when I could pay my ETF and regain my loss in a couple of months on a better network? Customer service? haha...
Spin it how you like, Tmo employees, I know you need a paycheck, but financed or contract they're still answering to someone. Just to clarify, my primary complaint with tmobile was present even before project dark, and I had hoped it would change. Your data options are crappy. Period.
The point is that if you do not need unlimited services it is a step backwards for customers. T-Mobile charges 10$ for SMS unlimited when before a customer would have paid 4.95$ for 200 SMS.
Some people may think they need unlimited to be on the safe side but then T-Mobile just wins and makes more money with the new plans.
Why does the Even More Plus Voice only plan not offer text message add-ons ? There's only an unlimited option in the next higher plan. Bah!
This should not be just about "changing the game", it should be about "improving the game". Ok, so T-Mobile is trying to make plans cheaper...Big deal, they've been cheaper than many other provider's plans for some time. Great prices and phones are useless if we can't actually get the signal (i.e. 3G) and devices that we want. They just targeted pricing/cost of the service without addressing the service itself...hello?
I have tried three times to build a family plan with three blackberries and have gotten three different totals.
This last try it seems right(cheaper).
750 talk text web plan plus extra line
109.99 + 5.
The 750 EM+ ttw plan appears to include BES/BIS services. If this holds true, this is quite a bit cheaper.
------------
Our national voice and data plans include:
Unlimited e-mail
Unlimited Web browsing
Includes unlimited domestic text/instant messaging
No nationwide long-distance or roaming charges
For BlackBerry® Enterprise plans: unlimited BlackBerry Enterprise Server* access
-------------
There is no longer an option to add any BIS or BES service add-on. I validated the cart by clicking checkout and it started the payment process.
Right now i am paying
$9.99 - Additional Line
$19.99 - BB BIS AddOn
$29.98 - BB BIS&BES AddOn
$19.95 - FT Unlimited Msg
$69.99 - FamTime Unl Nts 1000
(the third smartphone doesn't have any data right now but for comparison sake, add 24.99, 19.99 BIS was grandfathered in i believe.)
So the total would be 174.89 compared to the new 114.99. screenshot flickr link: http://bit.ly/40ABqH
however i currently can't select the same plan with a discounted handset, i only see Even More Talk plans(not text+web), those obviously require data addons.
Lets give unlimited voice + data + text to people on the even more plus plan and not keep them on contract. $5 to add an extra 3 and 4th line.
But family plans on contract lets give only voice + text and charge them $30-45/mo per line for BB service. Oh wait even more, lets charge $40/mo per additional line per month. What a RIP-OFF the even more plan is.
$50 - for 500 AT minutes
$10 - for @home service
$16 - for extra line and T-Zones
$9 - for T-Zones and $3 300 texts
Subtotal is $85; plus taxes and fees, minus 15%, and we hover just about $100 total for 3 lines and @home.
Should I switch or keep it as is? Thanks in advance for any help; much appreciated.
Paid the $35 fee. Got into the new non-contract plan. Just need to conintue my current contract (no biggie).
Got unlimited family txt/web/everything for 2 lines, and 2 additional lines with 200 min each. Total price $159.99 + $35 fee, no contract, minus 10% discount = 143.99 + taxes/fees. I was paying $173.97 for Myfaves 1800 for families, 2 data plans, 2 additonal lines, and $5 family line management stuff... - 10% corp discount = $156.57 + fees and taxes. so Im saving about $13, get unlimited voice on 2 lines.
I upgraded one of my lines on Thursday to a new Mytouch--- so I can give my old G1 to my son, as all of the lines get unlimited data/web. Not bad for $10 a line.
:^)
If I need to do an upgrade, I'll pay full price. So what.
There will be more rate down the road, there always is.
Tomorrow, I will be buying the n900 and switching over to even more plus, unilimited everything, for $5 more than I pay now. A damn fine deal if you ask me. And with the N900 for $560, that isnt much more at all than an unsubsidized myTouch..
that aint asking for too much considering all the crackberries offered.
don't care who makes it but, it better be on line and running by next may or a verizon droid with a verizon network extender box get my bucks.
that first set of prices, THAT would have been what you call a 'game changer"
I'm curious to see the price breakdown. Which plans do Verizon and Sprint offer that would save you $130 to add unlimited data? Everything I've looked at on their sites shows dramatically higher prices across the board for Verizon, and somewhat higher prices for Sprint.
@mistermix,
Here's the question: Why on Earth would anyone pay normal prices for Verizon service when they could get their CDMA phone activated on TracPhone and save over a hundred bucks a month? The answer is that StraightTalk service and coverage is not the same as normal Verizon service and coverage.
I'm with you. The perfect phone would run Android and have UMA and WiFi capability. Also, what about bluetooth file transfer protocols? Is there any reason these were left out of the HTC Android phones? Better internal memory and processor wouldn't hurt, either. Not that I've seen the perfect phone on another carrier (or I'd have bought and unlocked it) but it shouldn't be that hard to make one, right?
Well I'll still be paying less, the plan I renewed yesterday, I'll be paying like $75 a month for 1000 whenever and unlimited text and web including insurance, and all the other charges, it'll be like $75. I don't need unlimited talk so, that wasn't really important
$109.99+$5(txt+data included)=114.99
one time $35x2 migration fee (applies only for 2 lines.
Nothing like 24.99+5. I tried new customer with 3 BB and same result from TMO website.
if it wasn't for a the 35 dollar migration fee...i just dropped my handset protection because my phone already bit the dust and craigslist is cheaper then the insurance deductible...in the end for me at least its not worth paying $35 dollars for the exact same situation i have now
the only advantage being that texting only through the google voice app is really annoying
they have sort of gutted the middle in a way...i talked to a rep and asked if there was any way to say just get voice min and data and he said no ...i might try to call again just to see if i get a diff response
I went to the T-Mobile site this morning really hoping there was something that hadn't been leaked...like some killer new phone ('I Crave'). After being greeted by the new ho-hum add about what they think I wanted....I went to look for new phones. Oh I hope there are some. NADA.....NADA DamN Thing.
My question for T-Mobile. WHERE ARE THE PHONES WE CRAVE??
The plans really aren't that great. I see early contract termination in my near future.
Take about having the best customer service...the lack of offerings from T-Mobile is a huge disservice to the customer base.
I just switched a single line, and I have less than a year left on my contract. Where are you guys seeing this migration fee info at?
Limited time offer; subject to change. Taxes and fees additional. Unlimited features are only for direct communication between two people. $35 per line activation fee may be required. If you switch plans you may be bound by existing contract term (and related $200/line early contract termination fee) and $35/line Even More Plus plan activation fee may apply. You may be unable to switch to some plans. Premiere and other business/association discounts may not be available.
Congrats!
Look at both the Connect and the premium family plans. I am specifically looking at the connect plan though because I don't need vcast. Yes, that's 1400 minutes, unlimited minutes to 10 numbers (would work well for myfaves replacement in my case), unlimited text, and unlimited data. 5 lines is $199. Tmobile would charge me $150 to add data to my current plan (155 after taxes plus 150 plus taxes= >$300). Then I look at the new plans, 1500 minutes would not be enough in my case... so I would need to go unlimited... I'd pay more or nearly as much as verizon's price in additional lines alone. ($70 x 3 or $55 x 3). Yeah, that's unlimited calling on tmobile's plan. However, like I have said a million times, I don't need unlimited calling but need more than 1500 minutes a month ... Where is the answer for people like me? Verizon and sprint offer something. Tmobile does not. Spin away buddy, but I can do the math as well as anyone else.
@ Mikeeeee why would you need built in UMA for an Android phone when you could just use skype lite or google voice? I understand you may want to be able to make the call using your tmo number but really, wouldn't using google voice just be better off an android phone? Besides, the tmo blackberries have uma if that's your one feature you really need.
NC
Well they had the opportunity to get me to use my phone more. They could have made it worthwhile to pay for text and data. But the pricing is far too ridiculous for family plans. And now they have me looking at what their competitors offer and realising that maybe I should give AT&T/Verizon a shot when the contract expires.
You can still make wifi calls using your wifi calling enabled handset, such as a blackberry. The difference is you can't have a separate pool of "uma minutes, or wifi calling minutes"... it will deduct from your rate plan included minutes.
Project Dork indeed. And no, I'm not a Sprint shill... just a T-Mobile customer that's looking at paying $600 just to get out of a contract that he shouldn't even have in the first place. Disappointed with my MyTouch. Android sucks. It's half-baked, full of bugs, lacks some really basic features, and just feels like a big unfinished shareware project. So disappointed with it. *sigh*
If i dont like any of the new plans offered im litterally stuck paying for a plan that i didnt really even like either. Now to change my family plan of 3 lines im being told a fee $35 will be charged per line to go to the new contract. On top of that the preorder i just did for my cliq and havent even been billed for yet not to mention havent had past the 14 days i can not get a installment plan on . I would have to return the phone and order the same exact one to have it spread acoross 20 installments under one of the new plans offered. This is completely ridiculous that the pre order and the new pricing were not done with each other in mind.
I honestly got a headache trying to figure out which would save me more becasue the truth is im not really saving any more in money im just getting unlmited services for almost the same price im paying now for one of there older my fave family plans. The reps couldnt pull up pricing on the website to even help me out and not for nothing they were trying there hardest to help me as best they could.
i feel this is a complete rip off and i honestly want to switch all three of my contracts over to the no contract plan return my phone order a new one and be done with tmobile after i pay with it all. and this is after over 5 years of service with the carrier.
Even More Plus is non-contract, and T-Mobile gives you a nice monthly-fee bonus for letting them not subsidize your phone.
October 25, 2009 at 10:37 am
is it true that corporate discounts will not work anymore on any of these plans?
my corp rep said to call 800-375-1126 to find out, he didn't have the info yet
i tried going as a new customer and went for the EMPLUS 500+ulntext+unlweb 59.99
and i added a g1..so then i went to check out and it added and extra android web for $30! wtf i thought the plan already has unlimited web included!?..so then i cleared out everything and tried to do it again and went to checkout and this time it didnt add the extra android web for $30..so does this mean that the plan already does have the internet or do we have to pay another extra $30??
But I honestly think it was the dumbest thing to ELIMINATE MyFaves and all the rest of their older plans for these. Unlimited is good but the LITTLE options they give you to choose from are rediculous. I share a plan with my Mom and Dad whom don't use the Mobile Web (nor do they care to) and they hardly use text mesages. My dad uses the phone for talking mostly while my mom simply has a Mobile phone for MOBILE purposes. I on the other hand need unlimited Text and Web since I use smartphones and hardly ever talk on the phone.
Together we share a MyFaves plan with:
*** 400 whenever minutes which is $69.99 + $9.99 for the 3rd line = $79.98.
Each of us get our own 5 Faves to choose from thus getting UNLIMITED talk with 15 Numbers in Tot.
+ Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
+ Unlimited Nights & Weekends
+ Unlimited Text for Families ($19.95 which is the older price)
+ Unlimited Smartphone Web ($24.99 which is the older price)
+ 2 Mobile Insurances ($5.99 x 2 = $11.98)
= $136.90 (BEFORE TAXES)
= Our bill usually comes in on or around $160 - $163 a month (AFTER TAXES)
My point is ... yes UNLIMITED is wonderful...but not for those of us that prefer more CHOICES since we don't use UNLIMITED talk.
I or We (speaking for my parents as well and maybe for those like us) refuse to pay for UNLIMITED talk for a HIGHER PRICE for a feature we don't use heavily. Makes NO SENSE.
the even more plus plan 500 talk+text+web 59.99 that does include web right?
does anyone know why the system tries to add android web for $30? when i go to checkout? is it just me or is this happening to other people?..if this is correct that would be a 500 min plan for 89.99? wtf..tmo fail!!
$59.95 (700 minutes shared)
29.85 (for 3 other phones)
25.00 (Data on the main line)
5.00 (300 Text messages main line)
------
119.80 (- 15% corp discount = 101.83)
New Plan
$59.95 (750 minutes shared)
30.00 (for 3 other phones)
30.00 (Data on the main line)
10.00 (Unlimited Text messages main line only text option availabile)
------
129.95
what major cities don't they have 3g in yet?
Nicely said. I still think those darn data plans are too costly... but I would agree this revamp was in the wrong area. The plans were not an issue before. Coverage, 3g, and phones were. Guess what they still are.
A. The Apple IPHONE good phone but it has its flaws
B. $50 unlimited everything plan: Nationwide Carrier Stop Dreaming...
C. This Plan won't help me out... NO dippin dots its mostly for new customers you don't have to switch
At the end of the day Project Dark is a good step in the right direction...... If you guys complain about lack of 3G from T-mobile guess what..... YOU KNEW THAT WHEN YOU SIGNED YOUR CONTRACT...... Either you signed with t-mobile because there CHEAP Nationwide Carrier or For good Customer Service.............

That's right, I can't wait for Boise to get 3G.
The past 2-3 weeks we've heard that part of Project Dark is a rapid expansion of 3G along with a rapid expansion of HSPA+ in existing 3G areas. Why haven't we heard anything official about that today, I wonder?
im on the EVEN MORE PLAN...its everything i aready had before but just 15 bucks more and im unlimited which is ok i guess..
after like 2 hours on the phone (cuz no one knew what i was talking about) i had the plan changed
so i now have 2 LINES
UNLIMITED MINS
UNLIMITED TEXT
AND ONE LINE HAS SMARTWEB AND INSURANCE
TOTAL OF AROUND 175 which before i had 700 mins instead of unlimited so its jus like 15 bucks difference..
the even more plus ( no contract) is cheaper but when u thorw taxes in then its again around the 15$ difference from mine..
MY OLD PLAN 160$ WITH 700 MINS
MY NEW PLAN 175$ UNLIMITED EVERYTHING
i guess its kool now :)
i knew more about the plans and new phones coming out and 3 of the reps told me wow looks like you more alot more than what we do,,,im like.... TMO NEW BABY haha
ARE THE FULL PRICE PHONES W/NO CONTRACT UNLOCKED??
Nobody seem to be interested about this.
love u all
no
My Comcast home Internet with unlimited local and long distance $50.00 ( over 20 mbps)
T-mobile is overcharging for data plans when there 3g is not up to par with Verizon, ATT, or Sprint and Sprint now has 4G
on every plan
They have 24 hours to fix,or I am off to join my wife's ATT family plan.
Personally, I don't think that people will run from other carriers to get a discount of few bucks from their carriers only to get lame phones at T-mo and a very small 3G network. Really, you have to do MUCH better than this, T-mo, to surpass Sprint or anybody else for that matter!
1.) EXPAND COVERAGE. Isn’t DE concerned about tmousa? Tmousa should ask for more money to add more towers (and to buy out some regional company’s).. thats the main bad rep that tmousa gets, so ppl don’t really want to deal with that (unless they don’t travel, or stay in Big Cities)
2.) the iPHONE.. i don’t care for it, but it has 1M+ followers, and im sure alot would switch from AT&T to get some relief on their monthly bills.. hopefully tmousa would officially pick this up w/ AWS (since AT&T contract is up next year and ppl are saying Apple won’t make a CDMA version).. and since we’re bumpin up to HSPA+ really soon (Baltimore is already HSPA+), we don’t really have to worry about the towers being bogged down (hopefully they add more towers tho)..
3.) More PREMIUM phones.. this is the 2nd main reason tmousa has a bad rep. It always seems like we’re the last one to bump up to the next tech (Wing?), but we start off as the test drive company in new products; like the G1, that aren’t as powerful as they should. Atleast we are RUMORED to get the HTC HD2 Q1/2010.. Now THATS a premium phone.. we just need to keep puttin out more at a faster pace.. hopefully 2010 would turn around for tmousa.
it seems like im missing some more.. but those reason above should hit tmousa in the head to WAKE UP, if they want to bump up past atleast Sprint (since they keep declining in customers).. they already started off so far with the announcement in the new rate plans (aimed more towards new customers), the announced HSPA+ plans and launch in their first HSPA+ (3.75G) city of Baltimore, and the RUMORED HTC HD2 (w/ “tv & movies at your fingertips? hmm)
what do u guys think tmousa should do to gain more customers and to pass Sprint and receive the #3 spot?

These two plans look the same but what is this..........^?
That is the 35 dollar activation fee (which may be for each individual line)
And this > :(? Thats this pissed off t-mobile customer looking at Sprint's Htc Hero with envy, also wondering where are these alleged phones we crave?
October 25, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Well, if the phones are NOT unlocked, why would I buy them at the retail price from T-mo and not from lets say e-bay, best buy or the manufacturer?
__________________________
does anything say you can't buy a phone elsewhere?
tmo does unlock phones for free currently...no?
Here are tables to show our different scenarios: (All before taxes/fees to make it easier to compare)
Before with ATT & Vonage:
$80 1400 rollover plan
$29.97 for 3 additional lines
$15 unlimited data on 1 line
$17.99 500 minute vonage plan (unlimited incoming, vonage & toll free calling)
=====
$142.96
After with tmobile myfaves before plan changes:
$69.99 400 minutes (we barely need any minutes because of myfave & wifi calling)
$29.97 for 3 additional lines (1 is @home with unlimited calling)
$19.98 for unlimited Shadow data on *2* lines
$9.99 unlimited wifi calling for entire family
======
$129.93 ($13.03 savings over ATT + vonage *but* unlimited calling where I am most and my wife finally gets data which would have been $15 more on ATT)
New tmobile unlimited plan: (We want unlimited on 2 of the lines. 3rd uses about 500/m. 4th uses about 100 and 5th is for emergencies & never gets used)
$99 for unlimited
$120 for 3 additional lines @ $40 each
$20 for unlimited Shadow data on 2 lines
====
$239 or over $100 more per month than our current plan!
You wonder why we should be so upset with the changes? Well we only got 3 of our lines moved over before this & now T-Mobile wants to make us change plans (and pay $35/line fee) in order to add our other 2 lines! Now we could go to the 1500 plan & watch out minutes but it's $119.99/month and we might as well have stuck with ATT & at least had rollover as a buffer to avoid paying the outrageous $0.45/minute overage fee.
Anyhow, I hope T-Mobile wakes up & lets those of us grandfathered in make reasonable changes (especially us considering we're only 22 days into our contract) OR add myfaves & uma options for the new plans OR let us the hell out of our new contract so we can go back to AT&T!
Eventually, our old plans are gonna go away and we'll have to switch over to these.
Tmo is trying to get to 3rd place by picking up the Metro and Boost people. Thats how they are going to get more customers.
By the way, these plans BLOW!!!
I originally joined t-mobile for the sidekick, and stayed for the cust service, but now that the sidekick is dead, and i can't do anything plan wise, i think i will be going back to Verizon. If i'm going to pay around the same amount i might as well go for the better coverage and and options over at VW. Word is they are going to get the pre soon.... Thanks T-Mobile, it was a good run...
Thanks alot for being loyal to your customers
I'm on Flexpay myFaves 300 with unlimited data and texts right now and will be switching to the 500 unlimited data and texts when my next billing cycle starts. The extra 200 minutes will easily make up for not having myFaves anymore and even if I had to go to 1500 minutes it would still save me money.
Previous: 1800 min, unl txt for fams, data on 2 lines = Around 200/mo
Now: 1500 min, unl txt and data for fams, 2 addl lines w/ unl txt = Around 130/mo
How is this bad? I love it!!!
@ Derek Deulus: nobody cares that you switch your texts to talk to mom and grandma.
I just checked the other carriers (who you say are laughing)
For the 130/mo I am paying with even more Plus:
210 on ATT
200+ on Sprint
250+ on Verizon
Yeah... Im SURE they are laughing...LOL

So, anyone who's concerned about MyFaves going away, if your faves were other TMO customers, you've got no worries.
To TMO Employees: Were these rate plans what you had to sign non-disclosure agreements about, or is there more info to come? Thanks.
Not to mention "Phones that will make people jealous" ;)
Now I have
500 minutes for families $49.99
Unlimited text for familtes $9.99
3 additional lines $30.00
data for one phone $25.00
Total : $115
With the Even more Plus plan you get
750 minutes
Unimited text
3 additional lines
and data for one phone for
$110
Saves me $5 a month and get more minutes, but I have to wait until December when my contract falls under 365 days left
I don't know if corporate discounts work with the new plans, I would call and ask before I switched if I were you, corporate plans didn't work in conjunction with loyalty plans, so probably not. I have my grandfathered plan of 1000 whenever, unlimited nights & weekends, unlimited data & text, insurance, Caller Tunes, taxes & fee, I did the math and I'll be paying $72 a month, with my corporate discount, and I have this for 2 more years. It's fine for me, a cool price, it would be cheaper if I dropped the insurance, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, I've been paying insurance all this time, no need to change now. I don't think you can switch the the Even More Plus without buying a new phone for full price, I think that's a condition of getting those specifics prices.
I was trying to wait for the specs on the Behold 2 to see if they are gonna be worth sacrificing a physical keyboard, but it's too late now. If something comes out that I just have to have, I'll just sell my Cliq and buy it somewhere not T Mobile, haha. It is rumored that the N900 will be coming out in November, according to Boy Genius Reports, but who knows.
Umm, who in their right mind would have other t-mobile users in their MyFaves since they already get unlimited mobile to mobile to them? (Granted there were a couple low-end plans that didn't come with M2M or N&W but almost every plan did) OK, sure some people might add them if they think it's easier to call them from the 'cool' spinning MyFaves wheel but personally I don't know anyone on T-Mobile except those on our plan & I certainly wouldn't waste a slot for them when I could put a friend on there that I talk to 100's of minutes a month.
I am baffled there isn't more outrage by t-mobile customers about them killing MyFaves & hotspot calling. I mean aren't those 2 things a major reason people went to T-Mobile in the 1st place? It's not like they have the best phones.. Or best coverage.. And 3G coverage is a joke to say the least. (Hell we get GPRS on T-Mobile most places we go!) ATT just now added their own 'faves' called A-List and T-Mobile drops MyFaves, wth! ATT just added MicroCell femtocell boxes (granted limited right now but nationwide soon) after verizon & sprint already had theirs and T-Mobile has long had their similiar WiFi@Home UMA service (granted limited list of pretty crappy phones that supported it) but with them dropping that what are they going to do? Release their own femtocell in a few years? Don't forget they run on different bands than AT&T so of course the boxes won't be compatible. To me it looks like T-Mobile is going in the wrong direction and it's going to get ugly especially if they make the epic fail mistake of buying/merging with Sprint. LOL how pitiful would they be with 3 totally incompatible networks (their own GSM with odd band 3G, Sprint CDMA & the bastard child iden of legacy nextel)
Wow I wish I would have known about these rate changes earlier. I would have abandoned the idea of switching to T-Mobile & not been in the middle of this limo-land nightmare. It will be so much fun paying T-Mobile $600 in early termination fees when we just signed up 22 days ago. Maybe we'll get lucky & T-Mobile will have MyFaves and WiFi calling as cheap add-ons.. How many of us would it take calling asking for it for them to do it? :D
Bill
Does anyone realize that if you keep your plan, as soon as you buy a new phone from the, you HAVE to change to the new plans. You wont be granfathered after that. OMG FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!
Now, they need to get a phone that I can't live without.
Even More Plus is substantially cheaper than other carriers. Remember the Unlimited Talk Text and Web is with Smartphones. You cannot compare how much your paying for your RAZR. If you are using a feature phone you choose the Unlimited Talk and Text and add 10 for internet or don't. Unless you have a loyalty plan or buddy time these are cheaper than what you have.
Additionally for Even More Plus figure out how much it will save you. myTouch. Unlimited for 99.99 and phone for 150 = 2550. Plus. Unlimited for 79.99 and phone for 400 = 2320. It is a substantial savings. Subsidies sound cheap but are not in the end.
Lastly people who are on T-Mobile already and have an old plan or a Loyalty plan, THESE ARE NOT FOR YOU! These are designed to take customers from ATT and VZW. You already have a great plan, enjoy. They already took care of you. If you want to switch go to Billshrink.com and compare. Pretty sure you will find that your plan is cheaper. T-Mobile is changing the game but removing subsidies. No more FREE phones because they never were free. Buy your phone like you do a car or most any other electronic device, then pick the service to go with it.
Good stuff. I saved 2200 dollars by switching from ATT. iPhones are pretty, not that pretty.
Whoever posted its $50 unlimited everything made these look bad, but if you just break them down they are great. $50 everything is for people who want Nextels old network and 2G data. Out of the Big 4 T-Mobile is now the best easily and Sprint at 2. Plus if you hate them you don't have a contract so you can leave. I feel good knowing that they will make my coverage and Service solid, that is the only thing that binds me.
Some plans early on with the My Faves didn't have MtM. I have one of those. I had to add MtM as we do more family talking.
Btw one of my beefs is forced data plans on some phones & higher priced data plans on certain 'smartphones'. I'm sorry but that assumes people will be using data. Some people want a smartphone cuz they want to show off or they think it's cool but they may never even open the browser or such. That is partly why I hate the unlimited plans or add-on because it's like going to the all you can eat buffet when you can only eat a small plate of food. It's not a very good deal compared to the guy who can go up there 4x & still get dessert. In the end all unlimited does is cause abuse by some users who are piggies that is subsidized by the people who rarely use it.
No - some smartphones can act as PDAs - you can enter data and sync to your PC.
I wouldn't need the data with an old Palm Treo - I could install my programs by hotsync and have Documents to Go, Planetarium and Astromist at my fingertips. Since they are installed, they would use no airtime.
I think what they've done here is try to eliminate the technology gap by subsidizing every purchasable phone with their new scheme. Instead of waiting for exclusivity contracts with manufacturers, customers can now purchase whatever phone they want (pending it works on T-Mo's networks) and use it on T-Mo while still receiving (what appears to be) a subsidy in the form of lower monthly pricing.
The problem is, the pricing doesn't really seem aggressive enough to meet the upfront cost of purchasing a full-priced phone. I think they need to extend their interest-free payment plan offering through external vendors (like BestBuy) to give customers greater flexibility. Otherwise, if the customer can't afford the phone at full price upfront, they're stuck with the same poor selection they were before "Project Dark", and at an even greater price/month.
As a customer since VoiceStream Wireless back in 2002, I think I'll continue to pay my $39.99 for a few more months and see where they go with this thing. However, if all this amounts to is a price hike and some fancy campaigning, I'll be evaluating my options very carefully when it comes time to upgrade.
Consider yourselves on thin ice, T-Mo... pretty disappointing
For those of you complaining about a customer care rep saying you have to change.....ignore them and go into a corporate store, we can tell you the RIGHT info, and do everything for you there as well. T-Mobile is not forcing anyone to change their plan.
@Bill, if you want to buy a smartphone just to look cool and show off, I'm sure everyone will think you are the coolest person ever when you tell them that you cant do hardly any of the cool stuff that your phone does cuz you dont wanna pay for data.....thats really showing off.
For all those who are hating because TMO requires the internet for the data phones...have you tried buying a Blackberry from Verizon? T-Mobile is not the only company who requires the data plan to get the data phone. Get over it.
For all those who hate TMOs selection of phones...post your phone number, and I'm sure TMO will call you when they want your specific opinion on a new device for the masses. The grass always looks greener on the other side. I'm sure if you were sitting at AT&T with the iPhone you've had for the last year, Android would probably look pretty good to you. No phone manufacturer is going to win everyone's praises. There are always people that are going to think the phone is ugly, or too heavy, or weaker than the phone that came out 6 months later, etc...
The fact is that these plans will be beneficial for a good majority of wireless users. There has never been, or never will be, a plan/program/phone that benefited everyone. If you are not on a promo rate plan, and these new plans are $30 or more than you are currently paying, you probably didn't pick out the right plan...try again.
Tip - If you are on a MCSA/PDP discount program, your migration fees to the Plus plans are waived. If you aren't on one...get yourself a AAA card. Basic plan is like $40/year, and aside from its own benefits, can save you activation fees, migration fees, and/or 13% off your monthly bill.
Yes, these plans are very new for us as well as the policies. Many reps are not giving correct information. If you feel you are being given incorrect information push the issue.
You are still able to add lines to grandfathered plans with no changes to your grandfathered plans.
Our job in customer care is to save you money. We get scored very poorly on out calls if we miss a way to save you money. We are being told continually to right fit our customers. In all of the training we have had for this we have been told that if it is not going to save money DO NOT CHANGE THEM!!!
That proves my point of why it is unfair for them to force data plans on people just because they have a so-called smartphone. Can't tell me there aren't people who use them for calling & PC syncing & wifi & never use the cell network data.
@allan...atwork
Seems T-Mobile needs to catch their reps up & I just got 2 noobs without a clue. I mean they actually took 2 hours to research with their supervisors before calling me back with the bad news. If I can get a rep to add my last 2 ATT lines & keep my old stuff as long as I want or if they allow MyFaves & wifi calling to be added to the new plans at a reasonable cost then maybe I'll quit my bitchin. Well, maybe. ;) There is that last bit in that I'd need them to let me increase my plan minutes & still be grandfathered in because there is no way 400 will be enough for 5 lines even with myfaves & wifi calling. That is my own mistake for trying to save a few bucks with a lower plan while waiting the month for my att plan to expire on those last 2 lines but who can fault me because why pay extra for tons of minutes that wouldn't get used with 3 phones. Especially when I had no clue this was going to go down. I think the fact that T-Mobile didn't give existing customers notice and a window to make changes irks me the most. Actually it doesn't seem to fair that existing customers should be locked out of adjusting minutes as need arises but then again we're back at why they changed the plans in the 1st place. Honestly I don't understand why they couldn't keep the old myfaves plans around or at least have them as an addon then it wouldn't matter. I guess in the end it comes down to you can't please everybody.
Anyway the rep told me that they weren't forcing the plans on anyone and if I wanted to buy a Mytouch and add a data plan it wouldn't be a problem. So while I had him on the line I asked him how much the phone would cost me right now. To my surprise (and his) I was already eligible for the full discount (149.99). I told him as of 2 days ago the Mytouch was going to cost me around $350 so what's up with the sudden drop? He wasn't sure why I was eligible for full discount and made notes on my account to make sure I would get it since I didn't plan on doing it tonight.
So if this info helps anyone then great because I really didn't feel like going to Sprint after being a loyal customer since Voicestream.
That is good news & if it is true that eliminates much of my griping. Keep in mind my frustration was based on bad info given my TMobile reps and hopefully others can understand where I'm coming from. I appreciate the input *but* the part you missed is the fact I am 22 days into my contract as a new TMobile customer (Funny that I'm 22 days in & grandfathered) and am now stuck with only 400 minutes forever (unless I change plans & lose myfaves & wifi calling which were the main reasons I changed to tmobile in the 1st place, along with @Home which sounds like is still alive) because I was a cheap arse & figured I'd save some $ for a month while I waited for my ATT contract to expire on my last 2 ATT lines. Anyway the FAIR thing for T-Mobile to do would be to allow a window for existing customers to adjust their grandfathered plans. Or as I said before if they had MyFaves & wifi calling add-ons for the new plans at reasonable costs then I'd go for that too. But as it stands I am in about the worst possible position with these changes because if I was 60 days in I'd already have all 5 lines & had my plan where I want it for my 2 year contract term. Perhaps you TM reps could work your magic & make one of the above happen. :D
@TMO REP
I could care less about looking cool by a phone, I have a Shadow for Pete's sake. lol What I was saying is there are many legitimate reasons to have a smartphone & not have a data package. (How about someone with an iphone instead of ipod touch so they can also make calls instead of carrying 2 devices around. Or someone who syncs their Outlook with their WM phone via USB or BT) Not everyone is connected 24x7. And one main reason I didn't go to Sprint was that the plans require all lines to pay for data service. You really think my 80 year old grandma who I have on my plan to have a cell phone for emergencies is going to text or get online? Same goes with the TM unlimited calling plans. WTH should I have to pay $40 to add her onto my plan if she never talks more than 10 minutes a month on her cell phone? I understand and agree unlimited plans are nice for many & a good safety net IF you actually use that feature (Heck you see I'm complaining myfaves & wifi calling are gone in the news plans & that's exactly why) but in the end unlimited is a really bad thing because like I said before it usually causes the entire service to suffer because there will always be the people who abuse it (downloading 10GB of torrents on their cell phone for example) which leads to overselling & overuse because a few people hog the resources that the provider assumes the light users will leave available. (Look at how ATT's network suffers from iPhone people along with explosion of smartphones use) It is those light users who benefit the least & get the least bang for their buck vs the piggies. :D In the end I would have much rather had TM make extra minutes a reasonable cost (like 10-20% penalty over cost of included minutes) than gone unlimited because in the end that should be the most fair & have the least network issues from abusers. I mean seriously if none of the cell companies raped users on extra minutes or data we wouldn't need unlimited plans and the networks wouldn't be so lopsided.
It would be awesome if you did that & T-Mobile bought Sprint like rumored or they merged. LOL Almost the same thing happened to me before. I was on Ameritech & switched to AT&T Wireless. Ameritech became Cingular then later I was forced onto Cingular when they bought AT&T wireless so I unwilling ended up back where I started. To make me laugh even more after changing the name from AT&T to Cingular they turned around & became AT&T again not not until they forced me to get rid of my grandfathered 'blue' plan I had for years or they wouldn't let me add my wife to my family plan. Any of this sound familiar at all to my current situation? Guess everything goes around & comes back & kicks ya in the nards. Over & over again. ;)
GOOD:
--If you're moving from one of the big 3 these plans may very well save you a chunk of change.
--If you're moving from a MetroPC-type carrier no big savings, but you get to have an adult cell company.
--If you're contract phobic or have some credit issues, the EM+ may be just what the doctor ordered.
--If you're a technophile and know how to work the phone shopping game, then the EM+ could actually save you real coin... plus not sure yet on this, but it may open a lot of us up to feeling more easy about non-tmo phones on their network (I know there's still the whole 3g band issue, but...)
BAD:
--If you're a longtime TM customer, and have been paying attention, there's a high probability you already have a better plan than EM or EM+
--The roll out on the web was seriously flawed. Pieces of the puzzle that is project dark seemed to come out at different points during the day. And i can easily see how your average consumer could get confused (not junkies like most of us who knew the deal before the announcement -- your average consumer) -- and I think even for us junkies there's still some questions we'd like clarified.
--Handset options are still pretty lame. Don't know much about the cliq, but the G1, while revolutionary, was ultimately a flop, imho. The touchmyself, doesn't seem like much more than the G1 sans qwerty keyboard. And still no 3G blackberry (please hurry 9700).
--where's the HSPA+?
All in all, I'm not gonna jump off any buildings based on the announcement, but I'm not gonna jump for joy either. For me it's just blah...
Well, that's just one guy's take...
for me it doesn't make sense to switch. I have the loyalty plan for families and good unlimited data plans ($19.99 BIS on the BB and $10 unlimited data promotion on Gravity 2... not a big texter, but we're covered there as well for $10 total)
My father uses it but it costs an extra $20.
So it would be cheaper for us to change over if it included my G1 AND his BB.
If not, then it would be better to not change plans...
This is a game changer because these other companies are perfectly fine taking your money. Now if they have to match this new offering from Tmo who wins? That's right CUSTOMERS! And I don't know about you but when you split up a $500 phone over 20 months that breaks down to $25/month extra on your bill. How is that bad? The number one thing customers complain about in ANY cell phone service is that they HATE being locked into a contract. They dread the whole upgrade process because they know it means leasing your soul for another 2 years to said cell phone company.
T-Mobile has had 3G for LESS THAN ONE YEAR and has made VERY effective strides in rolling it out to the rest of the country. So keep complaining because its actually getting better test results than the other companies (Google it)
Think about this, if you owned a business, would you order 1000 units @ $300-400 a pop if you knew 3 people would buy it? Now I would love to see an N900 and think Project Black is a step towards Tmo getting all those devices that we crave since customers will pay to get them (you would have bought it unlocked anyway right?)
If you don't like this, go to your local store buy a bottle put it in your mouth and shut the hell up you big baby!
Keep it coming Tmo! Show me what's next!!
Plan I had was Unlimited Talk and Unlimited text family plan, 3 lines, monthly charge about 200 before tax. I had about 15 months left on my contract.
I haven't been using may talk minutes, but teenager on the 3rd line loves texting (sends over 5K per month normally), and wanted to get smartphones for the wife and me, really like web useage, facebook, twitter and such.
So T-mobile reps there switched us to Even More + plan for families, 1500 talk text web, with 3 new phones (a Mytouch, a G1, and a gravity 2 for the teen) with the 20 month payment plan for all 3. paid the total of 50 buck for down payments on the phones, total tax on the phones out the door today was less than 100 dollars.
Monthly charge with all the phone payments included 180 bucks.
Only additional charges to my account was 35 dollar fees to transition the first 2 lines over. 3rd line was free. Only stipulation I was told was I still had to continue to the end of my current contract.
Over 365 left, no early term 200 fee, no hassle, though they were a little slow, but we were thier first people of the day, new program, so gotta cut em a little slack.
Over all pretty happy about the process, and being able to get smartphones, a decent rate for the goodies I want, without having to extend or get a new contract, or having to cancel the current one and pay term fees. Not too much to complain about.
if you are really upset, try going into a store and see what they will do for you, you may be pleasantly surprised, and may save money. They will take the time to work it all out for you.
@spence it is a $35 migration fee, there is no upgrade fee
anyone know the cost of adding a line to the family plan with even more plus talk + text? every time I look at it on tmo's website it changes, it was $5 earlier then went to $15 and is now down to $10
I understand your frustration, being stuck kinda in the middle of your switching process, not much I can say there, however in regards to your emergency line, if you are on the unlimited plan, the $40 for additional lines is just if you want unlimited on those as well. For only $10 more you can have that extra line with just 200 mins. Hopefully that helps you out a little, but I would definitely recommend going into a store and talking with someone face to face with the plans in front of you, they may be able to help you get a plan that suits you, AND saves you money. You may not, but you never know until you check, remember we all had training on these plans and know a lot more about how they work.

Unlimited Nights (starting @ 7) and Weekends
Phone Price: 179 x 5 (plus 8% sales tax) = 966.60
Activation Fee: None
Plan Price: 119.99 + 45 for additional lines = 154.99 + tax
Total Average Monthly Cost for 20 Months of Service: 203.32 per month
Thats a savings of $150 per MONTH over T-Mobile. After 20 months, that comes out to just over $3000!
Even More Plus??? Sounds like Even More money for T-Mobile!
I have been a T-Mobile customer since 1997. Thats 12 years. I remember when they were Powertel! I worked for T-Mobile retail from 2003 to 2006, and I know a little bit about how these guys think. Ever since Deutsche Telekom (DT) came in, there has been a sort of culture clash going on internally. VoiceStream was, for all intents and purposes, a pretty laidback company. They had really good prices, but a limited network and limited phone selection. DT came in and couldn't decide if it wanted T-Mobile USA to be a value leader, or a premium provider (i.e Verizon). For the most part, prices remained the lowest in the business, but, slowly, upper management began to think of themselves as if they were in the same league as Verizon and AT&T (then Cingular). This arrogance all without investing in the network required to deserve such comparisons. T-Mobile slowly began losing its value edge, and started to nickel and dime customers just like the big two (2 year contracts, upgrade fees, increased text charges, etc).
Sadly, I think this lame new pricing scheme is the final culmination of the DT culture infusion. The old value philosophy of VoiceStream/Powertell has finally been purged from T-Mobile USA. Sad day.
Thing is, they really do believe that they can somehow market this in a way that will boost them above Sprint. The people I feel most sorry for are the poor reps that have to go out and sell this stuff. :-( Sure, some of the individual plans are relatively competitive, but the smartphone plans (especially family plans, as shown above) are just dumbfounding.
Epic Fail T-Mobile
Where it really sucks in in the family plan...you have to pay a huge fee to add data to additional lines beyond the first 2. Sprint does not do this...20 bucks adds a line and unlimited data and text...for tmobile it is anyway from 5 to 25 to add a line depending if it is unlimited...plus, and this is the kicker!! Another 25 bucks for android web service.
Drove by three T mobile stores yesterday as I was out and about....all of them were relatively empty. This is so obviously not game changing or major...you guys can be Tmobile fanboys all you want, but there is no way in hell this move Tmobile anywhere number 3. don't think it will hurt them..just do nothing. Do you guys think any of the majors will even bother responding to this...if you are Sprint what do you do....raise your prices to match probably!!
Thanks for the info. Perhaps the reps should have told me about the 200 min addon thing. I looked around & it seems it's $15/m not $10/m which is a ripoff compared to $9.99/m before sharing tons of pooled minutes. Let me guess, t-mobile bends me over charging $0.45/minute if my grandma butt dials & leaves it connected & I go over the 200 minutes? And you are right that would be good for someone like my grandma who never uses it but my mom's line (who is also on my family plan) get about 300 minutes per month. So $15 + $0.45 x 100 = $60 for my ma's line. RIPOFF. Maybe you are right, I need to drive the 30 miles to the nearest tmobile store and talk to them face to face but then again I shouldn't have to as the reps on the phone should be able to handle my situation. ;)
Any idea what the logic was behind eliminating wifi calling & myfaves? I mean was it just to strong arm people into the higher priced unlimited plans? Wifi calling offloads traffic from the cell towers so that should stay for sure. And without a femtocell box available T-Mobile is shooting themselves in the foot since all the other carriers have them & TMO has like the worst coverage of them all, ESPECIALLY 3G. Myfaves still likely uses cell towers but many people have m2m people in their faves so that saves TMO.
I don't want to seem like a whiny lil biatch. It seems these new plans could save INDIVIDUALS a lot of money especially if they talked+txt a lot & have smartphone/crackberry plans. But for some, these new plans suck donkey ballz ESPECIALLY those of us in a family plan with a mix of usage. That's where the a-la-cart stuff fits much better than the all-you-can eat. The sad thing is you need to sit down & make a spreadsheet to compare these plans & it shouldn't be that damned complicated! lol
@Bob, I am one of the people who have a smartphone with no data, for reasons listed above. I cant justify the additional costs yet. and to be honest, EM+ kinda worries me. I guess I really need a TMO rep who is on top of these plans to walk me through them to see if I can be better off.
UMA still works, just no $9.99 unlimited addon. You either use your plan minutes (m2m n&w stuff still applies) or be on an unlimited calling plan & it doesn't matter anyway. (Big ol' F-U from Tmobile for saving them cell tower usage unless you're already on unlimited plan)
LOL here's a good one. Seems having 1 @Home line can be MORE than a cell even with unlimited calling!
(All Even More Plus Unlimited Family straight from TMobile's site)
5 cell phones unlimited calling
$184.99
4 cell lines unlimited calling + @Home (Started with @Home & added 4 cell phones)
$194.99
(Shows as Even More Plus T-Mobile @Home $10.00 per month as 1st line)
4 cell lines unlimited calling + @Home (started with 5 cells, removed 1 & added @Home adapter)
$174.99
(Shows up as Add a line charge $25.00/m as last line)
So, in other words, as a special "Thanks" from T-Mobile for using our internet connection & saving them cell tower usage they either charge you $10 MORE per month than if you just had a cell or cut you a break of $10/m. File that under WHAT THE HECK! I suspect there is an issue with the site after all the changes but in the end it is still screwy because IMO @Home service certainly should be cheaper than cell service if you're using your own internet & not TMobile towers.. Heck I think TMobile should give it free to people on high enough plans so they can lower cell tower traffic. :D
They did talk about charging the 35 per line but I asked if they could waive those because I just switched last week. The guy checked on it and sure enough, he waived my fees!
My bill is now the EM+ 1500 with unlim data/text with two G1s.
The only caveat here is that I was a previous Tmo customer 2 years ago, and they recognized that when I started the chat.
So to summarize:
New customer (more than year on contract)
Started Tmo livechat
35 dollar migration fees per line
No ETF
Possibility to waive migration fees if you ask.
Hope this helps!
These new plans were designed to pull customers away from other companies, and they will do that, because they are better plans than the other companies. But in order to steal customers T Mobile still need to have phones that people want, are comparable to other popular phones, or are exclusive to only T Mobile. T Mobile will steal business people because they have all the Crackberries you can imagine, hahaha. And when the N900 comes out, if it is indeed coming to T Mobile will bring another flood of customers, who have been waiting for the phone. All the people who were T Mobile customers before now can keep their old plans if they want to, you don't have to change plans, even when you upgrade your phone, so calm down.
TMobile shouldn't make existing customers be stuck with the plan they were on at the point they flipped the switch in order to keep their existing features (myfaves, wifi calling) To me that is crap. If they are really concerned about their customers & saving them $ there is no reason they couldn't keep the old plans on the back burner for the people who can benefit from them. They don't need to advertise them but reps should be allowed to manually change stuff if needed. I was promised by numerous tmobile reps that I could change my plan at any time & not be penalized but here I am less than a month in & I can't change unless I either pay $35/line fees to go to Even More or pay $200/line fees to do More Plus. To me that is unfair & warrants a complaint being filed with the FCC. Then maybe TMobile will wake up & do the right thing. (I can't say this enough, the new plans are very good for many people especially smartphone users who talk/txt a lot & have those outrageously priced data plans with any carrier (not just TMobile) but for some, especially those on family plans with a mix of users where vary in voice/txt/data usage these new plans suck. Like I said in my earlier post I'd be looking at $175 in fees to switch & $100/more MORE for something comparible to my existing plan. Which I'd live with if it wasn't for me being mid-move to TMobile & stuck with only 400 minutes to share between 5 lines..)
Go price a package out from scratch using a Blackberry device. Add $40 for BIS + Web makes this almost twice the price of a Sprint package.
FAIL!
Thanks for the understanding. The issue I have is the plans DO exist otherwise how could people be grandfathered in. ;) I mean seriously what does TMobile lose by letting people change between minutes on their old plan? I know my predicament probably isn't common but let's say you are happy being grandfathered in with what you have now & 6 months from now you get married & want to add your wife in. Ok supposedly they'll let you do that but you can not add more minutes for her, you're stuck with the # of minutes you had unless you change to one of the new plans. Depending on your circumstances that could cost $100/month more as shown my my situation. Anyway it boils down to choices and as of yesterday my choices have been changed outside my control even though the tmobile reps promised me I could change # of minutes any time without a problem but now it IS a problem & TMobile doesn't want to do anything about it other than suggest I pay the $1000 in fees for 23 days worth of service, sell the new phones we got on ebay & go back to AT&T. (Yes I was told that) Anyway, I'm mostly just venting my frustrations in here hoping that TMobile will take notice & reconsider their grandfathered restrictions. Either allow people to change # of minutes & keep everything else the same, give MyFaves & unlimited wifi-calling add-ons for a reasonable monthly fee, or let me cancel my 23 day old contract without fees so I can put everything back the way it was. Either way I'd be happy.
@Dan…how about the droid, the iphone, and the n900. And don’t give me that bullshit about switching carriers. Phone selection has always been tmo’s weak point. U can’t advertise “the handsets u crave” and then not actually offer any.
@30014
i was under the impression that droid wasn't a phone just a series of phones with android on them for Verizon..... Also the N900 is suppose to come to t- mobile(rumors) i dont hear any rumors of it going to any other carrier, but i seriously doubt it will be the greatest thing since sliced bread... u people on here r crazy u just want something to complain about! i dont see anyone making you change ur old plans to new plans, and everyone is complaining about that they want a contract al of a sudden to get a phone cheaper, i bet you r the same people who bitch about taking a 2 year contract when you come and buy a phone from me. lol the grass is always greener on the other side lol u guys r a joke
i choose the even more plus 500 with text and data for 59.99
and a g1 and at check out it still wants to add an extra $40 for data..WTF! the plan already says it has text and WEB..whats wrong?
Even More (2 year contract req)
Even More Plus (20 month phone payment plan)
I prefer ONE year contracts with the discounted NEW phone price.
So how are these plans benefiting me???
Will see you back when T-Mobile & Sprint merge in 2010 :D
I really don't feel I need to cough up extra money when I am actually trying to save money. I really thought this was what the doctor ordered. That's not all, if you happen to want a upgrade or a new phone you are not eligible for the dicount price. You have to buy the phone at full price! And let say a better plan comes along and you want to change to that, it's not possible! You can't change to any other plan other than the even more plus and the even more plans!
I am furious! I thought this was a good group of plans, but if I have to lose more to gain more, I rather go to AT&T and get the iPhone that I wanted all along or go to sprint and get the palm pre and still have unlimated everything. I am very unhappy with this project dark stuff! I understand this is a business, but do you have to be so greedy! This whole thing is too much and too complicated! It's ridiculous!I hope some of you find this comment helpful!
Tmobile has disappointed me. Unfortunate.
So if you look at my calling, and text.. the 59.99 plan is for me.. which is about 7 dollars more than what I pay. I pay after taxes and all about 63 bucks...
WTF TMO
ve only been with this carrier for 8 month and I'm not happy at all. I get no service from my office i miss alot of important phone calls because of this. i called c.s they told me that i should be getting 5 bars my response was well let me know when i get the 41/2 bars let me know. they tried everything nothing worked. finally he came with a brilliant reason for why my service was so bad . he told me its the materials in the wall of your office. i responded so whats AT&T's excuse they have full bar in my office all i heard was crickets. he told me to hold for 2 weeks because they will be making some big changes if im still not satisfy with the service to call and cancelled
